  2. General Public Comment

  3. Nomination of Candidates
Commissioner Collins explained that he had asked staff to solicit comments from Commissioners regarding the Commission’s leadership and nominations for President and Vice President. He reported that these comments were overwhelmingly extremely positive. He also reached out to the Mayor’s office. Commissioner Collins noted the positive direction of the Commission, as evidenced by progress in implementing the strategic plan and by the augmentation of the agency’s budget.

Commissioner Shiota seconded Commissioner Collins’s comments, pointing to the positive partnerships with other City departments and in the community at large. She also praised the good synergistic relationship between Mr. DeCaigny, President Beltran and Vice President Ordeñana, helping to move the agency forward.

Commissioner Frankel echoed his colleagues’ remarks, recommending continuing with the existing leadership.

The Committee further discussed the advantages of continuing with the current leadership, adding that it would be beneficial for Vice President Ordeñana to have an opportunity to continue in office, as a way of developing “bench strength” in the Commission. Mr. DeCaigny agreed that he has a wonderful working relationship with both President Beltran and Vice President Ordeñana, and that both give a great deal of time to the City, not only for their monthly public meetings, but also in ad hoc consultations and meetings with him, representing the Arts Commission at events and in other ways.

There was no further discussion by the Committee, and there was no public comment. The following motion was unanimously approved.

Motion to nominate JD Beltran as President and Roberto Ordeñana as Vice President of the Arts Commission.

  4. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:21 p.m.
