A)         Review of the deadly tiger attack at the SF Zoo on Christmas

B)         Report regarding an electrical fire that destroyed the home and took the lives of several animals of Rocket Dog Rescue founder Pali Boucher, and update regarding opportunities to provide assistance and to donate to the Rocket Dog Rescue Fire Emergency Fund.

6.       Status and tracking of letters of recommendation approved by the Commission, requesting action by the Board of Supervisors

Items are first introduced to the Commission then there is public comment. After public comment, the Commission discusses the item and then may vote on it.

 

A)         Update regarding the status of the Commission’s recommendation that the City pass a resolution that condemns the confinement of egg-laying hens in tiny, wire battery cages, and further encourages SF egg consumers not to purchase eggs produced by caged hens.

 

B)         Update regarding the status of the Commission’s recommendation to pass a policy whereby SF city departments, city concessions, and city-funded events procure eggs produced only from cage-free hens.

 

C)         Update regarding the status of the Commission’s recommendation that a permit process for professional dog walkers be established.

A)         Discussion and possible action to recommend a management system and provisions that would protect wildlife caught behind the electric fences enclosing goats being used to control vegetation growth on lands under the jurisdiction of the city.

-         Items are first introduced to the Commission and a motion is made, then there is public comment. After public comment, the Commission discusses the item and then may vote on it.

    

A)         Commission officer elections:

B)         Discussion regarding potential action the commission may take to address 4th of July fireworks, which reportedly cause nesting birds to abandoned their nests and young.

C)         Discussion of the slaughter of non-native deer at Point Reyes and consideration of a resolution recommendation that would condemn the practice and encourage the National Park Service and other jurisdictions to adopt non-lethal means of controlling non-native populations and to consider killing large numbers of animals only as a last resort, undertaken only when all other reasonable means of population control have been given a chance and failed.

D)         Discussion and possible action to recommend a resolution in support of the ballot initiative that would put a measure on the November 2008 ballot requiring that egg-laying hens, calves used for veal, and pigs used for breeding be given enough room to turn around and extend their limbs. This resolution would take the place of the formally voted on recommendation to pass a policy whereby SF city departments, city concessions, and city-funded events procure eggs produced only from cage-free hens.

There is accessible parking at the following locations: two (2) designated blue curb spaces on the southwest corner of McAllister Street at Van Ness Avenue; the Performing Arts Garage (entrance on Grove Street between Franklin and Gough Streets), and at Civic Center Plaza Garage.
