Attend a Meeting

The Commission and Department on the Status of Women welcome the involvement of the community. All Commission and committee meetings are open to the public. Agendas detailing meeting topics and action items are posted online at least 72 hours before each meeting. Visit the Meeting Information page for meeting schedules, agendas and minutes for each meeting body the Department oversees.

The Department on the Status of Women has one of the smallest budgets of any Department of the City and County of San Francisco. The Friends of the Commission on the Status of Women is a 501(c)3 organization whose funds support the Department's work. For more information, visit the organization's website.

Join a Committee

At various times, committees seek dedicated members to carry out projects and initiatives in the community, and announcements about vacancies on these committees are distributed when they occur. These are excellent opportunities for an individual to volunteer their time to create positive and lasting change in San Francisco.

Volunteer with a Partner Agency

Over 80% of the Department’s budget goes back to the community through the Violence Against Women (VAW) Prevention and Intervention Grants Program, which funds community programs serving women and girls. Your time or donation could support efforts to ensure the safety of women and girls in San Francisco. For a complete list of Partner Agencies and their contact information, visit the Service Directory.
