Presenting Clip from “Parlor Games” Episode and Discussion

Kevin Lee from DPH presented a clip from the “Parlor Games” episode of the MSNBC series “Sex Slaves.” The clip showed footage from some Massage Inspection Task Force inspections run by DPH and SFPD. There was extensive discussion about allowing media to film human trafficking investigations and possible human trafficking survivors in the context of these inspections.  Several people raised concerns with broadcasting images of women in these establishments without their consent and how the presence of cameras might interfere with the ability/trust of a possible trafficking survivor to disclose information.  Minouche agreed to follow up on how decisions were made to allow MSNBC to film these inspections and what kind of policy was in place to guide those decisions.

Update on Local Massage Establishment Ordinance

There was an update on Supervisor Tang’s ordinance to strengthen enforcement at massage establishments.

Possible Evaluation of Task Force

Dr. Alexandra Lutnick discussed a federal grant she would like to apply for that would provide funds for her and some colleagues to evaluate several human trafficking task forces in the U.S., including the Mayor’s task Force.  (Other Task Forces to be evaluated are in Baltimore and New Orleans .)  The evaluators would be a team of researchers and survivors.  The group approved Dr. Lutnick’s inclusion of our Task Force in her proposed evaluation.
