Department of Elections Reminds San Franciscans that Monday, October 24, is the Last Day to Register to Vote in the November 8 Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, October 19, 2016– The Department of Elections reminds San Francisco residents that the October 24 deadline to register to vote or update certain registration information for the upcoming November 8 election is quickly approaching.

San Franciscans who are not sure if they are registered to vote or whether their registration information is current are encouraged to check their registration via the Voter Registration Status Lookup tool on

The Department’s phone bank, (415) 554-4375, will be open this weekend, October 22-23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to meet an anticipated increase in call volume before the Monday, October 24, voter registration deadline.  Department staff will be available to provide telephone assistance to help potential voters register or reregister to vote or to answer any election questions. Telephone assistance will be available in English, Chinese, Spanish, Filipino, and other languages.

Register online
Registering or updating registration information takes just a few minutes, and can be done online at prior to midnight on October 24. Online registration is an option for all citizens who live in California.

Register in person
San Franciscans may also register in person at the Department of Elections’ office in City Hall, Room 48. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. On the registration deadline, October 24, Department personnel will help people register at the front entrance of City Hall, on Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place (Polk Street) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Register by mail
People may pick up a Voter Registration Form at most post offices, San Francisco Public Library branches, and Department of Motor Vehicles offices, complete it and mail it to the Department of Elections.  All mailed registration forms must be postmarked by Monday, October 24, for new registrants to become eligible to vote in the November election.
