June 5, 2018, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election: Period to Submit Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fee Is Open for Candidates for the Offices of Mayor and the Board of Supervisors, District 8

SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, December 13 – The period for candidates to gather voter signatures to reduce the cost of filing nomination papers for the offices of Mayor and District 8 Member of the Board of Supervisors is open; this period ends Tuesday, December 26, at 5 p.m. The offices of Mayor and District 8 Member of the Board of Supervisors will both appear on the ballot for the June 5, 2018, election.

Each candidate must pay a fee when filing nomination documents. Candidates may submit petitions with signatures of registered voters in lieu of paying the filing fee. Signatures may be submitted to cover the entire filing fee or a portion of the fee.

Before gathering voter signatures, candidates must obtain the petitions from the Department of Elections. Candidates must submit all signatures to the Department no later than December 26 at 5 p.m.

Note that the period to submit signatures in lieu of the filing fee for candidates for other federal, state, and local offices that will appear on the ballot in the June 2018 election begins on December 14 and ends on February 7.
