Power Plant Task Force

Image of Proposed Power PlantThe Power Plant Task Force was created by Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 119-04 to be the ongoing successor to the Potrero Power Plant Citizens Advisory Task Force (Resolution 362-99). Originally charged with providing the City with input regarding the Southern Company's (Mirant) purchase of the Potrero Power Plant, the Potrero Power Plant Task Force monitored the status of the Southern Company's Application for Certification to the California Energy Commission (CEC) and reported on the ramifications of increased generation.

Following the suspension of the Mirant Application for Certification, the City and County of San Francisco, through the SFPUC, applied to the CEC to site 3 to 4 Combustion Turbines in or near the Southern Waterfront. The amended Task Force will look at any and all issues relating to the power plants and the effects on the neighborhood.
