1) Where is the Controller's Office located?

The Controller's Office is located at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, Room 316. Accounting Operations is in Room 300; Accounting Systems is in Room 486 and the Management and Budgets Division is in Room 312. Telephone: (415)554-7500, Fax (415)554-7466.

2) How can I identify what a check from the Controller's Office is for?

If you receive a check from the Controller's Office and cannot determine what the payment is for, please call Accounting Operations at (415)554-7513. Please have the check number ready before you call.

3) How do I file a claim against the City?

The deadline to file a claim against the City is six months from the date of the incident. To file a claim, click here to obtain a Claim Form and Instructions. Complete the form and return it to the Claims Clerk with an original signature. The claims clerk is located at: City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, Room 396, San Francisco, CA 94102-4694. 4) How does a sub-contractor place a stop payment lien on a CCSF contract?

If you were contracted by the primary contractor, then click here to obtain a Stop Notice Lien from the Controller's Office. Complete the form and return it to the Controller's Office, with an original signature, in person or by mail.

If you are a sub-contractor who was contracted by another sub-contractor, you must file a Preliminary Stop Notice with the Primary Contractor before placing a Stop Notice Lien. Once the Preliminary Stop Notice is filed, click here to obtain a Stop Notice Lien from the Controller's Office. Complete the form and return it to the Controller's Office, with an original signature, in person or by mail. You must attach a copy of the Preliminary Stop Notice that was filed with the Primary Contractor.

5) How does a sub-contractor release a stop payment lien placed on a CCSF contract?

To release a stop payment lien placed on a CCSF contract, contact Nancy Poon at (415)554-7513. .

6) When will I receive my property tax refund?

If your refund is a Negative Supplemental Assessment Refund, you will receive your refund approximately 60-90 days from the date that you received the enrollment notice from the Assessor. If you do not receive your refund within this timeframe, then please call (415)554-7591.

If your refund is a due to a ruling by the Assessment Appeals Board, then you must contact the Assessment Appeals Board at (415)554-6778 to obtain the date of your Transmittal Letter to the Controller. Once you obtain that date, please call (415)554-7592.
