FIRST POLICY TOWNHALL MEETING TO BE HELD IN RICHMOND NEIGHBORHOOD
Meeting to provide substantive policy dialogue on the issue of homelessness
San Francisco, CA - Mayor Gavin Newsom today announced that the first Policy Townhall meeting will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, January 13, 2007. Residents of the Richmond welcomed the announcement, calling the policy forum an opportunity to ask tough questions of their elected leaders and agency heads.
"The Richmond District stands ready to host the first of Mayor Newsoms Policy Townhalls," said Pat Kaussen, Executive Director of the Richmond District Neighborhood Center in District 1. "We are excited to have a frank discussion about homelessness and how it affects not just the Panhandle or Tenderloin, but also the Avenues and western half of the city," continued Ms. Kaussen.
"Im proud that the Richmond District has been selected as the first stop of Mayor Newsoms Policy Townhalls", said Ron Miguel, President of the Planning Association for the Richmond. "These meetings will allow the diverse voices of our citizens to be heard and have a direct influence on the affairs of our city," continued Mr. Miguel
On Tuesday, the Mayor outlined the meetings as a way of avoiding the usual political discourse and promoting responsible and efficient policy debates that involve not just San Franciscos elected officials, but also residents and the community from across the city.
"I look forward to discussing homelessness with the residents of the Richmond and the Board of Supervisors in the community on January 13," said Mayor Newsom. "Its high time we moved the homelessness debate from the confines of City Hall to the community where residents can discuss their experiences and collaborate on solutions and best practices," continued the Mayor.
The first Policy Townhall will be held in the Richmond on Saturday January 13 at 10:00am at the Richmond Recreation Center at 251 - 18th Avenue (between Geary and Clement).
