Kiely Hosmon, the SF Youth Commission Director for almost 3 years, is grateful to the previous directors who fought for incredible youth driven policy work.  Kiely herself has a 20 year history of working in youth leadership and organizing with an emphasis on youth-driven policy advocacy, where 11 years were focused on LGBTQ youth specific organizing. She was the Youth Development Specialist for the SF Youth Commission for almost two years and previously staffed the Marin County Youth Commission and Youth Councils, via the Youth Leadership Institute, for four years. Kiely excels at building up and centering the voices of young people to be community leaders, as well as working with adults to create and maintain authentic youth-adult partnerships. She is incredibly excited about the Youth Commission's emphasis on institutional change: the 2016 and 2020 Vote16SF initiatives, the closure of 850 Bryant, the closure of Juvenile Hall, and the fruition of a Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) Navigation Center.  Now, more than ever, is the time to have young people at the forefront of social and legislative change.  Although born and raised in San Jose, her elders were San Franciscans for 4 generations who built several houses in the 1860s that are still standing on Church and 23rd Street.  She is also continuing the legacy of working for the city as her great grandfather was the General Manager of the SF Water Department.  Kiely has two degrees in Feminist Studies, with a minor in LGBTQ Studies, and has been called "The Icebreaker Queen" in all her jobs.  In her spare time, Kiely loves to dance bachata and kizomba.
