Minutes 

President Ordeñana called the meeting to order at 1:37 p.m.

  1. Roll Call

    President Ordeñana announced virtual meeting instructions.

    Commission Secretary Alyssa Ventre announced public comment instructions.
     
  2. Possible Closed Session:  Public Employee Appointment – Director of Cultural Affairs

    President Ordeñana called for public comment on all matters pertaining to the closed session.

    Public Comment:
    A caller on behalf of See Black Womxn said that President Ordenana did not respond to a letter sent by See Black Womxn from August 9. They also commented on the budget of the Director of Cultural Affairs search and questioned the hiring of Bob Murray & Associates.

    Dana King said that See Black Womxn sent letters about the DCA process and they did not receive any responses. She said that the Director of Cultural Affairs is vital to expanding diversity and equity. She stated that the ideal candidate should provide data driven results, show proof of successful DEIA implementation, drive a culture of accountability, and build a culture of belonging, She said that See Black Womxn objects to hiring Bob Murray and Associates for the search. She commented on the budget of the Director of Cultural Affairs search and questioned the hiring of Bob Murray and Associates. She requested the Commission address her questions in their closed session.

    Angela Hennessy commented on the Director of Cultural Affairs search. She questioned the budget of the search and the hiring of Bob Murray & Associates.
     
    The Commission voted to go into closed session, pursuant to Government Code Section 54957(b) and San Francisco Administrative Code Section 67.10(b), to consider the appointment of a Director of Cultural Affairs.

    The motion unanimously carried by the following vote:
    Ayes: Ordeñana, Stryker, Askew, Beltran, Collins, Ferras, Jung, Keehn, Musleh, Schnair, Shelby, Shiota, Walker, Woolford.

    Closed Session
    The Commission met in closed session from 1:58 p.m. until 4:28 p.m. Commissioners Ordeñana, Stryker, Askew, Beltran, Collins, Ferras, Jung, Keehn, Musleh, Schnair, Shelby, Shiota, Walker and Woolford were present in the closed session. Commission Secretary Ventre and Valerie Gaeta Phillips, President of Bob Murray & Associates, were also present.

    Commissioner Woolford left the meeting at 3:29 p.m. Commissioner Keehn left the meeting at 3:57 p.m.

    Open Session
    The Commission reconvened in open session at 4:28 p.m., with Commissioners Ordeñana, Stryker, Askew, Beltran, Collins, Ferras, Jung, Musleh, Schnair, Shelby, Shiota, Walker and Commission Secretary Ventre and Ms. Phillips in attendance.

    President Ordeñana thanked members of the public for their patience during this closed session.

    President Ordeñana announced that the Commission voted to make an appointment contingent on the final negotiation and coordination with the Department of Human Resources.

    Pursuant to San Francisco Administrative Code Section 67.12(a), the Committee voted not to report any of the discussions held in closed session.

    There was no public comment.

    The motion unanimously carried by the following vote:
    Ayes: Ordeñana, Stryker, Askew, Beltran, Collins, Ferras, Jung, Musleh, Schnair, Shelby, Shiota, Walker.
     
  3. Adjournment
    There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:32 p.m.
