  1. Program Director Report
Ms. Nemzoff explained that Ms. Daniels used to handle the review of the cultural center MPPs along with all other tasks related to the centers, but this year, the review has transformed into a more traditional granting process under Ms. Nemzoff's management. She explained the MPP application and recommended approving the MPP for six centers; she granted AAACC an extension. The sub-grantees were not included in the motion because their funding is included in Somarts.

    Commissioner Walker made the motion.
Motion to approve the proposed Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Theater, Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, and South of Market Cultural Centers' 2004-2005 Management and Program Plans and grant allocation contingent upon receipt of all required documentation.

    Bayview Opera House: $ 234,825
Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts $395,406
    Somarts: $658,838

    The motion passed unanimously.

Ms. Nemzoff explained some HTF history with the percentage allocation and said that the seven organizations are recognized because they represent a larger constituency. Pam Wu explained that the legislation passed with the intent for the City to own more than just four buildings in four neighborhoods. Ms. Nemzoff agreed that she would like to see more programs in the community.

With that Ms. Nemzoff introduced the Programs in the Community grant recommendations:

    Commissioner Walker made the motion.
Motion to approve the Programs in the Community (PIC) grant to the following PIC grantee organizations, recommended by the PIC review panel, from the 2004-05 Grants for the Arts Fund, pending written confirmation from Grants for the Arts:

  3. Chinatown Community Arts Program Report
Ms. Hom reported on CCAP programming and noted that her tenure ends with a Kearny Street Workshop reading. Ms. Nemzoff led a discussion with the commissioners about CCAP history. The commissioners said the community should be made aware of the proposed closure as soon as possible.

  4. Arts Education Report
Ms. Nemzoff thanked Commissioner Walker for speaking at the CSSSA awards ceremony where 43 youth from San Francisco were honored.

  5. Cultural Facilities Report
Ms. Daniels reported that the facility money for this year is spent except for the remaining funds for MCCLA's project. With the proposed 04-05 budget, it is unclear who will be responsible for maintaining the buildings. Somarts thanked Ms. Daniels for her work.

  6. Commissioner Brown asked for public comment.
Ms. Wu passed out a sample of APICC's program and audience survey and highlighted the collaborative programming at this year's APICC festival. She also encouraged a public process for the SFAC/GFTA merger.
