  2. Update on Search for Director of Cultural Affairs
President Johnston began by briefly summarizing the interview process to date, in response to questions from staff. He reported that Commissioner Draisin had planned to participate by telephone, but was unable to do so. He explained that the Committee had agreed on a set list of questions which they asked of all of the candidates. He reported that the Mayor’s office had met with some of the candidates. President Johnston planned to place the name of the final candidate on the full Commission’s agenda at its November meeting, which was postponed to mid-month.

President Johnston reassured staff that the Committee has not only had a full list of good applicants, but has had interesting and in-depth conversations with candidates in the interviews.

Ms. Nemzoff reported that very little information had come to her “through the grapevine,” but she had heard that the Committee was conducting a great process. She offered thanks on behalf of the staff for the Committee’s time and consideration.

Commissioners Prior and Przyblyski said that it has been interesting and energizing to think about the possibilities for new leadership, and President Johnston said that the conversations have raised very illuminating issues. Commissioner Przyblyski added that the Committee has been working to balance the interest in moving forward expeditiously with the need for due diligence.

Ms. Nemzoff and Ms. Axel thanked the Committee and left the meeting.
