  1. Program Director Report
Ms. Nemzoff introduced the WritersCorps DVD that showed as the commissioners entered. This was a gift for the WritersCorps teachers over the past 10 years, produced by CAE staff.

She highlighted other CAE successes including two NEA awards (to WritersCorps and the Arts Education program). Staff is in the middle of a two-year review process with the seven cultural centers, which is leading to better reporting and a distinction between the commissions granting and facilities maintenance commitments.

  2. WritersCorps Report
Ms. Heller announced City of One, this year's WritersCorps book published by Aunt Lute, would be available this month. While the focus is on national press, seven youth (9-20 years old) are prepared for local media. The Chronicle will be doing a feature on Shahid Minapara and his family.

The tenth anniversary benefit on May 19 will be at the Women's Building with former WritersCorps teacher, Ishle Park hosting and performing. The event is from 7-9 p.m. There will be a silent auction and a reading from 8-9 p.m..

Other upcoming events include the book party on June 7 of WritersCorps site publications and WritersCorps participation in the Poetry Centers' anniversary reading.

  3. Chinatown Community Arts Program Report
Ms. Hom reported on two February events including chamber music sponsored by Bank of America and a Gu zhang performance and summarized upcoming visual exhibits and poetry readings.

Facilities work done in the gallery space has left the space uncomfortable and SFAC staff will need to work with Chinese Cultural Center staff to remedy this problem.

  4. Arts Education Report
Ms. Axel updated Commissioners on progress towards creating an Arts Education Master Plan for the San Francisco Unified School District to be spearheaded by the San Francisco Arts Commission. She also summarized new funders for AEFC and SFAC.

  5. Cultural Center Report
Ms. Nemzoff reported on the success staff has made towards distinguishing between granting and supporting the buildings. Center directors will meet at the end of the week. AACCC has completed their 501(c)(3) process and will have a new nonprofit running the center at the beginning of the fiscal year.

  6. Commissioner Brown opened the floor for public testimony. Pamela Wu with APICC distributed brochures for the upcoming United States of Asian America festival. She reported on how the center has accommodated budget constraints through cuts in programming and smart marketing.

There was no old or new business. Commissioner Brown adjourned the meeting at 6:00 p.m.
