MEETING OF THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE
OF THE ARTS COMMISSION

Committee Chair Roberto Ordeñana called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m.

1. Roll Call
   Commissioners Present
   Leo Chow, Chair
   Sherene Melania
   Roberto Ordeñana
    
   Commissioners Absent
   None
    
2. Nomination of Candidates
   Commissioner Chow noted that the Commission and the agency were going through a time of transition, and he felt that continuity was important, and he nominated the incumbents, Commissioner Beltran as President and Commissioner Melania as Vice President.
    
   Commissioner Ordeñana agreed with his assessment and seconded the nomination. Mr. DeCaigny reported that he has had a very successful working relationship with both, and said that staff also considered continuity of leadership crucial.
    
   Commissioner Melania expressed her thanks for the vote of confidence and said she looked forward to continuing her service.
    
   The Committee discussed leadership succession and the composition of the Executive Committee, on which both officers serve; they considered whether that committee might be seen as a training ground for future officers. The Committee also observed that Arts Commissioners serve at the pleasure of the Mayor, and that any planning must take account of that fact. They asked Mr. DeCaigny to research how other commissions or boards address this issue.
    
   There was no public comment, and the following motion was unanimously approved.
    
   Motion to nominate JD Beltran as President and Sherene Melania as Vice President of the Arts Commission.

   There was no public comment.
    
4. Adjournment
   There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:47 p.m.
