  1. Consent Calendar

    1. Motion to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into contract with either Atthowe Fine Art Services or Ship/Art International (to be announced at the meeting) in an amount not to exceed $165,000 for the removal, transportation, storage, conservation and relocation of select artworks by Demetrio Braceros located at Cayuga Playground.

    2. Motion to approve the siting of the sculpture by Jonathan Bonner in Courtyard D instead of B for Laguna Honda Hospital.

  2. San Francisco International Airport
    Susan Pontious

    Presentation of Janet Echelman’s revised design for San Francisco International Airport, which includes the sculpture shapes and color; the relationship of the sculptures to the architecture; the colored lighting concept, the terrazzo floor design, and fans to provide movement of the sculpture, if feasible.

    Motion: Motion to approve Janet Echelman’s design development which includes the sculpture shapes and color; the relationship of the sculptures to the architecture; the colored lighting concept; the terrazzo floor design, and fans to provide movement of the sculpture, if feasible.

  3. Port of San Francisco
    Susan Pontious

    a) Presentation of project plan for art enrichment funds from the Neighborhood Bond Project.

    Motion: Motion to approve a project plan to create an entryway sculpture at Heron's Head Park with $400,000 art enrichment funds from the Neighborhood Bond Project.

    b) Informational presentation of potential art component for the Blue Greenway.

  4. Potrero Branch Library

    Presentation of Gina Telcocci’s installed artwork at the Potrero Branch Library.

    Motion
    : Motion to approve the final installed artwork, here and past here, 2009, a sculpture that hangs above the staircase at the Potrero Branch Library and includes four elements: a balsa wood circular stem, a basket-like woven pod with a rope extension, a metal woven partial pod casing, and a metal donut shape, by artist Gina Telcocci.

    Motion
    : Motion to accept into the Civic Art Collection the final installed artwork, here and past here, 2009, a sculpture which hangs above the staircase at the Potrero Branch Library and includes four elements: a balsa wood circular stem, a basket-like woven pod with a rope extension, a metal woven partial pod casing, and a metal donut shape, by artist Gina Telcocci at the Potrero Branch Library.
  5. Sunset Playground

    Presentation of selection of artist and proposal recommended by the Sunset Playground Artist Selection Panel.

    Motion: Motion to approve the artist and proposal (to be announced at the meeting) recommended by the Sunset Playground Artist Selection Panel for Sunset Playground from the following list of finalists: Amy Blackstone, Jefferson Mack, and Bryan Tedrick.

    Motion: Motion to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a contract with the artist selected by the Sunset Playground Artist Selection Panel from the following list of finalists (Amy Blackstone, Jefferson Mack, and Bryan Tedrick) for design, fabrication, transportation and installation/consultation during installation for artwork for Sunset Playground in an amount not to exceed $70,000.

  6. General Hospital Acute Care Unit – Art Glass for Floors 3 - 7

    Presentation of selection of artists and proposals as recommended by the General Hospital Artist Selection Panel for Art Glass for the General Hospital Acute Care Unit: Floors 3 – 7.

    Motion:

    Motion to approve the selection of artists and proposals (to be announced at the meeting) as recommended by the General Hospital Artist Selection Panel for Art Glass for the General Hospital Acute Care Unit: Floors 3 – 7 from the following list of finalists: Nancy Blum, Gordon Huether, Carrie Leeb, Lisa Levine, Alan Masaoka, and Arthur Stern.

    Motion:

    Motion to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into contracts with the artists (to be announced at the meeting) as selected by the General Hospital Artist Selection Panel from the following list of artists (Stephen Galloway, Mildred Howard, Julio Morales, Nancy Blum, Gordon Huether, Carrie Leeb, Lisa Levine, Alan Masaoka, and Arthur Stern) for design, fabrication, transportation and consultation during installation for art glass artwork for General Hospital Acute Care Unit: Floors 3 – 7 in amounts not to exceed (amounts for each contract to be announced at meeting).
  7. Chinese Recreation Center – Exterior Work

    Presentation of options for how to proceed with the exterior artwork at the Chinese Recreation Center.

    The Commission may take one of the following actions:

    Motion: Motion to approve the artist Li Qing Liang as recommended by the artist selection panel for the façade of the Chinese Recreation Center.
    OR
    Motion not to approve the artist Li Qing Liang as recommended by the artist selection panel for the façade of the Chinese Recreation Center and not to accept the façade as the selected site.

    The Commission may take one of the following actions:

    Motion: Motion to ask the three finalists for the exterior of the Chinese Recreation Center - Colette Crutcher, artist team Margarita Soyfertis and Vadim Gortsky, and Li Qing Liang - to create proposals for the exterior site in the playground.
    OR
    Motion: Motion to purchase an existing artwork for either the exterior site in playground or an interior site to be indentified in consultation with the Recreation and Park Department.

  8. Ortega Branch Library

    Presentation of artist team Wowhaus’s design development for two fish mosaic sculptures at the Ortega Branch Library.

    Motion: Motion to approve artist team Wowhaus’s design development for two fish mosaic sculptures at the Ortega Branch Library.

  9. Valencia Streetscape Improvement Project
    Mary Chou

    Presentation of Michael Arcega’s design development for his project titled Valencia Street Posts.

    Motion: Motion to approve Michael Arcega’s design development for four unique sculptural capitals and clamshell bases installed on four wooden poles along Valencia Street.

  10. Memorial Court Project

    Update on project development and Memorandum of Understanding with the War Memorial Board.

  11. Temporary Installation on Civic Center Plaza
    Jill Manton

    Presentation of installation of sculpture by Zhang Huan on Civic Center Plaza as part of the Shanghai Sister Cities 2010 celebration.

    Motion: Motion to approve the exhibition of the sculpture “Three Heads Six Arms” by Zhang Huan on Civic Center Plaza for the Shanghai Sister Cities celebration for the duration of one year, starting in the Spring or Summer of 2010, pending permit from the Recreation and Park Department.
