Ā President OrdeƱana called the meeting to order at 12:39 p.m.

    President OrdeƱana shared virtual meeting instructions.

    Commission Secretary Ventre announced public comment instructions.

    President OrdeƱana began the meeting reading the Arts Commissionā€™s land acknowledgement statement.

  3. Directorā€™s Report
    (7:11)

    Director Remington reported on a number of HR items including the hiring of Community Investments Program Officer J. Andrea Porras, the departure of the Director of Public and Private Partnerships Rachelle Axel and shared many open job postings.

    He shared some recent events. He said the agency hosted its Annual Convening on February 15 and thanked Mayor Breed for joining. He said that the Monuments and Memorials Advisory Committee held their second meeting on February 17. He stated that he attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the campus expansion of the Community Music Center campus and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Artist Power Center web app launch. He thanked Commissioners Beltran and Walker for their participation at the Artist Power Center launch. He also noted his attendance at an amazing discussion at the Dream Keeper Initiative Dreaming Forward: Advancing Prosperity for San Franciscoā€™s Diverse Black Communities event with Mayor London Breed, Board President Shamann Walton and Dr. Cornel West.

    He gave an update that the Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously to recommend to the Board of Supervisors local landmark designation of the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts. He provided a timeline on next steps.

    Director Remington announced the passing of former Arts Commissioner, arts educator, and esteemed conceptual artist, Jeannene Przyblyski. He asked to take a moment of silence in her memory.

    Commissioner Beltran shared her thoughts in memory of Ms. Przyblyski. She also thanked Ms. Axel for her incredible contribution to the agency during her tenure.Ā 

    President OrdeƱana thanked Director Remington for the moment of silence and offered his condolences on behalf of the commission.

  4. Racial Equity UpdateĀ

    Senior Racial Equity & Policy Analyst Sandra Panopio provided updates of the agencyā€™s racial equity work. She said she is working on the Racial Equity Action Plan progress report due to the Office of Racial Equity. Working on progress report on the REAP for the Office of Racial Equity. She reviewed some priorities for the year which included preparing for the strategic plan, improving data collection, strengthening workplace culture, creating a community engagement statement strategy and addressing barriers for artists and arts organizations. She also noted the beginning of the Monuments and Memorials Advisory Committee (MMAC). She said she is supporting the committee administratively making sure equity is at the center.

    Commissioner Beltran thanked Ms. Panopio for her work and asked for a link to the latest MMAC meeting recording.

  6. Public Employee Performance Evaluation: Director of Cultural Affairs Ralph Remington

    President OrdeƱana called for public comment on all matters pertaining to the closed session.

    Commissioner Walker seconded by Commissioner Beltran moved to go into closed session, pursuant to Government Code Section 54957(b)(1) and San Francisco Administrative Code Section 67.10(b), performance evaluation of the Director of Cultural Affairs, Ralph Remington.

    The motion was unanimously carried by the following vote:
    Ayes: OrdeƱana, Shiota, Beltran, Walker.

    The Committee took a pause from 1:12 p.m. to 1:16 p.m.

    Closed Session
    The Committee met in closed session from 1:16 p.m. until 2:40 p.m. Commissioners OrdeƱana, Shiota, Beltran and Walker were present in the closed session. Commission Secretary Alyssa Ventre and Director of Cultural Affairs Ralph Remington were also present in the closed session. Commissioner Walker left the meeting at 1:57 p.m.

    Open Session
    The Committee reconvened in open session at 2:40 p.m., with Commissioners OrdeƱana, Shiota and Beltran, and Director Remington and Secretary Ventre in attendance.

    Commissioner Beltran seconded by Commissioner Shiota moved to not report any or all of the discussions held in closed session pursuant to San Francisco Administrative Code Section 67.12(a).

    There was no public comment.

    The motion was unanimously carried by the following vote:
    Ayes: OrdeƱana, Shiota, Beltran.
