President Ordeñana called the meeting to order at 12:32 p.m.

President Ordeñana shared virtual meeting instructions.
Program Manager Wazwaz announced public comment instructions.
President Ordeñana announced items 6 and 7 were tabled.

- Director’s Report

Director Remington welcomed the new Director of Community Investments Denise Pate on her first day at the Arts Commission. He reported on a number of HR updates including the hiring of Paris Cotz as the new Civic Design Review/Public Art Trust Program Associate, the newly posted Capital Analyst, and the departure of Program Officer Tina Wiley.
He also announced two upcoming community sessions about Prop E on November 4 and November 11 co-hosted by ABBA and many cultural centers.

- Racial Equity Update

Senior Racial Equity & Policy Analyst Sandra Panopio provided updates the agency’s racial equity work. She shared that the land acknowledgement resolution was approved by the Ramyatush Ohlone community. She added that the resolution would be presented at the full Commission in November. She also shared the agency’s intentions on working with the community and that she plans to meet with community members to review the future commitments. She provided more details about the land acknowledgment process and use of the statement.
President Ordeñana recognized the work of the commission and appreciated the agency’s commitment to continue to support the native community.

- Ebony McKinney Community Stewards Grant

Senior Program Officer Jaren Bonillo introduced the item and provided details regarding the Ebony McKinney Community Stewards Grant including background information, panel details and timelines.
President Ordeñana recused himself and left the meeting at 12:54 p.m.
Commissioner Walker applauded staff for the quick turnaround of creating the grant. She said she supported ways to expand the grant and commented on increasing outreach for the grant.
Commissioner Beltran, seconded by Commissioner Walker moved to approve the motion as presented: Motion to approve the Ebony McKinney Community Stewards Grant funding recommendation to award Queer Women Of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) to support the collaborative development and release of the Ebony McKinney Arts Leadership Grant with a focus on reimagining and centering racial equity, addressing harm, and the ideals embodied by Ebony: vision, determination, and advocacy for the arts as social practice; and, to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a grant agreement not to exceed $40,000 at this time.

The motion unanimously carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Shiota, Beltran, Walker.
President Ordenana re-joined the meeting at 12:59 p.m.
