- Nomination of Candidates
Commissioner Collins described how he had asked the Committee to solicit feedback on the current Commission leadership and potential nominations; he added that he had a conversation with the Mayor's office regarding the Commission's leadership. From everyone, he heard tremendous respect and appreciation for the leadership and the dedication of President JD Beltran and Vice President Roberto Ordeñana.
Commissioner Collins recalled the Committee's prior discussions of the value of having a strong "bench" of leadership, and observed that during President Beltran's tenure, a few different Commissioners have served as Vice President.
Mr. DeCaigny reported that he had consulted with President Beltran about her willingness to continue in office. He reminded the Committee that in her professional life, she has a new position at California College of the Arts, heading the Center for Impact. Because of the challenge of managing the extensive time demands of both her new position and the Commission presidency, she said that while she is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Commission, she would be amenable to stepping away from the office if another candidate were to be nominated.
Commissioner So also offered high praise to President Beltran, reporting the same from Commissioners she had consulted. She proposed nominating Vice President Ordeñana for the presidency, and Commissioner Kimberlee Stryker for the vice presidency. Commissioner Frankel largely echoed Commissioner So's comments, recognizing the excellence of President Beltran's tenure, and adding that the Commissioners he had consulted agreed.
The Committee discussed the nominations and the strengths of the two candidates, and Mr. DeCaigny pointed out that the Commission would continue to benefit from the experience of Commissioner Beltran.
There was no further discussion by the Committee, and there was no public comment. The following motion was unanimously approved.
Motion to nominate the slate of Roberto Ordeñana as President and Kimberlee Stryker as Vice President of the Arts Commission.
