San FranciscoAsthma Task Force Environmental Committee

MINUTES

 Wednesday, May 7, 2008

1:30-3:30 pm

Fox Plaza, 1390 Market St., Suite 230

1)       Planning Stakeholders Healthy Homes Trainings for June and October  (45 minutes)

We discussed how to combine the stakeholder healthy housing special interest topics and the linkage to ACLPPP Healthy Homes training from NCHH, in a training to be produced by LaCroix Davis in September.  Dennis Jordan of ACLPPP would be able to offer us a 2 day Healthy Homes training in October.  Karen will look into reserving rooms at the State Building for both trainings, as it is near to Civic Center garage and public transit.

Special interest topics include:  1) new (hopefully already adopted) code changes re. local exhaust source ventilation for kitchens and bathrooms, clean condition and filter changes specification as “maintenance” for heating units, 2) stakeholder feedback on a draft healthy housing guidance for rental property owners, 3) toxic use reduction best practices, 4) use of thermographic cameras to identify moisture infiltration, 5) mold remediation, 6) home performance testing as means of reducing moisture condensation, and 7) preview of seven concepts of Healthy Housing ala NCHH training curriculum.  Perhaps some focus on green building standards, what they do or don’t accomplish re. healthy housing for occupants, protection from intake of poor quality outdoor air, etc.

2)      Healthy Housing Legislative Proposals; status with City Attorney; link to publishing Guide (15 minutes)

No legislation has been drafted as yet by Judy Boyajian.  Emily Rogers, Supervisor Maxwell’s aide, is inquiring.

3)       Home Performance Testing Update from SFE(5 minutes)

Ray Manion will get Cal Broomhead of his office (SFE), and Karen Cohn together to discuss how to get permission from PG&E to characterize SF building types and energy cost savings to be gained from use of HPT.

4)       SFHA data report on pre and post camera use (5 minutes)

Anjali may be able to convene a phone interview with Maintenance and Modernization staff as before to get a fuller picture of what the cameras have accomplished for them.  Miguel Paltao did submit the full report of camera use, and we reviewed that data.  ACORN, via Mary Higgins, did get us additional tenant evaluations, primarily unhappy with Maintenance service.

5)       MOH and DPH/EHS Thermographic Camera Training Update/ Follow-up (5 minutes)

Camera training by Scott Wood (one day) was completed by DBI, MOH and one DPH-EHS staff (Helen Zverina).  Camera training (3 day certification level training in building science applications) was completed by 5 MOH staff and Helen.

Next meeting will be rescheduled.  June 4th, 2008 Meeting will be cancelled due to Karen's absence.
