3. Review any progress on Asthma-Safe Healthy Housing Guidelines in development
Karen met with Rachel Knight about the legal clinic in SFGH. Works with clinicians in East Palo Alto already.
In Boston they provided a law clinic that included housing and family law where people get medical care. Lawyer did intake, wrote letter to property owner to be signed by Dr. asking for fixes, Dr. would sign and CC a law firm. This was effective.
Volunteer Legal Service.
Could be a sustainable practice that ATF advocates for.
Environmental Committee Questions should be:
Do we feel our codes address what they need to address or are there gaps?
If not a code issue, is it an issue of better use of code enforcement agencies as resources?
Do we want new policies to be enacted by agencies that give out money?
Are the resources in place and how do we propose they be put in place?
Feel like it would be helpful to have consultant with technical expertise to help put together and move forward these priorities.
At Dec 8th California Asthma Partners Meeting in LA Karen was able to share info about what SF has in relation to housing:
Code Fee
Code Enforcement Outreach Program
Housing Education flyers
Rent control
Task Forces and Citizen Advisory Committees
Someone sent postcards to target households – could be interesting in SF
