B) Update on status of Helping Hands for Animals Initiative that would invite volunteer attorneys to prosecute cases of animal cruelty under the direction of the SF District Attorney.

C) Update on approaches to stop illegal fireworks on the 4th of July from disturbing nesting birds in four parks in San Francisco, especially Stow Lake, Lake Merced, Heron’s Head Park, and Agua Vista Park.

A) Update on the status of the Commission’s recommendation that the Board of Supervisors pass a resolution in support of the ballot initiative that would put a measure on the November 2008 ballot requiring that egg-laying hens, calves used for veal, and pigs used for breeding be given enough room to turn around and extend their limbs.

A) Discussion of animal welfare issues at the San Francisco Zoo, including concerns about the conditions under which animals are being kept, and what is in the best interest of the Zoo’s animals. Speakers representing the Zoo, groups in support of the Zoo, and groups critical of the Zoo will be invited to speak. [Discussion only]

B) Discussion and possible action to create a SF Zoo Subcommittee of the Commission to investigate concerns raised about the welfare of animals at the Zoo. The Subcommittee will present any findings to the Commission for possible recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. [Discussion/Action Item]

C) Discussion about coyotes in San Francisco and what can be done to ensure that animals and people are safe during the 2008 coyote-breeding season to avoid a repeat of last year’s shooting of two coyotes in Golden Gate Park. [Discussion only]
