San Francisco Bicycle Advisory Committee

Minutes of the Meeting on August 28th, 2008

Members Present:

  • Andy Bindman, District 1
  • Richard Tilles, District 2
  • Marc Brandt, District 3
  • Bert Hill, District 7 (Chairman)
  • Rufus Davis, District 10
  • Casey Allen, District 11

Introduction

  • Meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Chairman Hill
  • Minutes from the July meeting were approved.
  • Chairman Hill announced that the first “Sunday Streets” event would take place on August 31.
  • Casey Allen mentioned that the Slow Foods festival was also on for that weekend.

Public Comment

  • Andy Thornley of the SFBC mentioned the second family time festival in Golden Gate Park on September 6.

Chairman and Committee Reports

  • Chairman Hill spoke about bicycling as mentioned in the Christian Science Monitor.
  • Picking up on the media angle, Richard Tilles cited an excellent article on the bike plan injunction that was in the recent Wall Street Journal.
  • Marc Brandt talked about his participation on the Caltrain Bikes on board Committee.
  • Casey Allen has met with Supervisor Sandoval who will ask to have a meeting of the Transportation and Land Use Committee to discuss environmental damage caused by the bike plan injunction.
  • Thornley mentioned a 9 AM Saturday bike ride in District 3.
  • Randall Orr from SF State discussed a Southwest bike committee to discuss issues in Districts 4, 7 and 11.

 

There was a committee recess between 7:15 and 7:55.

 

Review of the Draft Bicycle Plan

  • The Committee went over comments made by Chairman Hill and Task Force Member Tilles.  Dustin White of SFMTA was present to take notes on the comments and to answer questions.
  • At the end, Andy Bindman made a motion to accept comments as written and amended during the session.  The motion passed unanimously.

Closing

  • Brandt said that given recent comments from police on critical mass; a police representative should attend our next meeting.  Hill suggested instead that we write a letter to Chief Fong and Brandt said that he would draft such a letter.

 

 

  • The meeting adjourned at 9:45 PM.
