9.      Fell/Masonic Signal Changes – The signal phase changes have now been installed, with some early criticism of the sequence time and visibility of the new light at Fell and Masonic. Initially, vehicles seem to be violating the law regularly, but what changes can be expected to mitigate scofflaw activity.

10.  Movement to End the Bike Plan Lawsuit – With the help of Greg Hayes, Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval has been working on a strategy to end the Bike Plan injunction before completion of the EIR.  A draft resolution can be viewed at archive.aspx?dept=2030&sub=&year=2008&dtype=2078&file=89120

11.  Agreement on Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Issues – In cooperation with the Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee the joint committees would like to share a resolution of common agreement on city policies regarding the protection of pedestrians on streets and crosswalks.

12.  Bicycle Treatments in New York and Reykjavik – Jake Wegmann recently returned to SF with pictures of some design treatments from other cities that could be beneficial is assisting in finding treatments fit our unique urban needs.

13.  New Pilot Facilities – San Francisco has been a vanguard in designing and testing innovative bicycle facilities.  Three have been discussed as ways of promoting safety recently:

a.      Bike lane transition to sharrows instead of the dashed line weaving area

b.      Bike Box design elements

c.       Signage to encourage motorists and taxi drivers to drop off passengers at curb, rather than on the left side of bike lanes and established bikeways

d.      Sharrow placement guidelines, based on road width, parking, and topography

e.      Transition of Bike Lane to through lane location at Right-Turn-only lane arterials
