3. Announcements. Emily solicited input for upcoming meetings with Sup. McGoldrick and Daly; Chris Robertson prelim hearing on 4/11 (Jean Davis)

5. public comments non-members--pedestrian concerns, misplacement of curb bulbs: Clay and Van Ness, Washington and Gough, disappearing crosswalks, poorly painted

skip to item 10, Caltrain bikestation. Margaret from Peninsula Rail 2000 argued that Caltrain historically relies on cities for stations’ upkeep, modifications, etc and that Caltrain/JPB could not be expected to pony up funds for operating expenses. She urged that we find a way to convince the city to involve itself with the responsibilities for this bikestation. Discussion of recent initiatives BAC/SFBC and Sup. Hall’s office. Victor V. recommitted to a "no parking fee’’ concept. Pi Ra and Greg Hayes to attend the 3/28 CAC mtg. for the Transportation Authority. Jim M. to San Carlos for mtg. 4/5 if necessary.

11. Stencil study. Greg Hayes had begun to make counts of all forms of vehicular traffic at several intersections as "before" data. Emphasis on "wiggle connection"

Resolution: The SFBAC suggests that 7th Ave., Fell and Oak Sts., Market St., and 3rd St. be included in the initial stencil experiment and study.

D. Better Neighborhoods 2002. Casey A. to attend upcoming meetings for Balboa Park
7. MTC Regional Bike Plan. Presentation surveying Plan processes by Kate of Rails to Trails, subcontractor for the plan in San Francisco. ONLY ONE PUBLIC WORKSHOP TO BE HELD IN SAN FRANCISCO, May 3. First priority is to make a list of projects to be included in plan, including priorities. List to be formalized at BAC Working Com’t April and possible General mtg. April

9. DPT Monthlies, Adam Gubser speaking and answering questions. Valencia St. finalization (permanent status) in the hands of BOS, probable approval soon. Polk St. roundup study just beginning, Mike Sallaberry doing the work.

12. 7th St. bike lanes (Townsend to 16th). Catellus, Port of SF, Planning Dept., DPT generally in agreement with a plan which would include striped bike lanes on 95% of this stretch.

13. Share the Road Campaign. Adam G. outlined this campaign, emphasizing that regulatory signs saying "Bikes allowed full use of lane" and "change lanes to pass bikes" or similar message would be an important part of campaign. Several BAC members said they felt that the traditional "Share the Road" message was ambiguous and not likely to change motorists’ behavior. Substantial amounts of the available $200,000 would be used for advertising, including bus wrap-arounds. Campaign to begin in early June.

14. Victor Veysey spoke about the importance of a worker-friendly, environmentally sound approach to building a network of bike depots/stations/repair facilities around the city and in other cities, these facilities making use of techniques developed at the Bike Hut.

15. New striping on Market St. near Van Ness. Most members spoke in favor of this or similar striping, established in short sections around transit islands or other confusing traffic merges. No action

16. Arguello St. bike lanes. resolution deferred to April
