Minutes of August 3, 2000
The Immigrant Rights Commission (IRC) retreat meeting
was held on Thursday, August 3, 2000 at San Francisco City Hall, Hearing Room
416, at 5:00 A.M.
Members Present Samuel Assefa, Penelope Chronis,
Renato Ecarma, Isabel Huie, Dale Jimenez, Marie Lorraine Mallare, Philip Nguyen,
Thou Ny, Richard Ow, Natividad Ramirez and Renee Saucedo.
Members Absent Anita Friedman, , Martin Schenker,
Lee Sprague, and Nam Thai.
Others Present Dang Pham, Executive Director
of the IRC
Adoption of
Previous Minutes The minutes of July 14, 2000
meeting was adopted by the Commission.
Presentation:
· Commissioner Chronis presented a final
draft of the By-Laws and the Commission unanimously adopted the By-Laws.
· Commissioner Huie provided the list of
the issues which has been considered by the Commission in the past and recommended
that the Commission should prioritize the issues as following:
1. Language Access Legislation
2. Hate Crimes
3. Education policy for immigrant children
4. Community empowerment
Actions: The Commission passed unanimously
to hold the next community meeting at The Chinese Six Companies in Chinatown
on September 7, 2000 at 5:00 P.M.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at
7:00 p.m.
