Minutes of Meeting on February 13, 2004

A meeting of the Immigrant Rights Commission (IRC) was held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at City Hall, Hearing room 421.

I. Roll Call:

Members Present            The meeting was called to order on 8:30 a.m., Commissioners, Bondoc, Casillas, Gonzalez, Haile, Huie, Lau, Ow & Zheng were present.  Casillas arrived at 8:35 a.m.

 

Members Absent            Commissioner Atay, Nguyen, Ribas & Tran were absent.

Others Present            Dang Pham, Executive Director, Winny Loi, Commission Secretary

  • Immigration Deportation –Cuevas Family: The commissioners have adopted the resolution strongly urging the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors to ask Senator Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer and Representative Pete Stark to respond immediately to the Cuevas Family request for immigration assistance.  Commissioner Gonzalez has made a few changes on the resolution.  On the 2nd page on line 22: Further Resolved, that the Immigrant Rights Commission strongly urges the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors to immediately request Senator Feinstein, to act favorably on legislation legalizing their stay of Delfin Cuevas, Angelita Cuevas, Dominique Cuevas, and Donna Cuevas; as Senator Feinstein has done so in a similar immigration case; involving a family from Mexico; and be it Further Resolved, that the Immigrant Rights Commission strongly urges the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors to immediately request Senator Barbara Boxer to coordinate with Senator Dianne Feinstein on the legislation legalizing the stay of Deflfin Cuevas, Angelita Cuevas, Dominique Cuevas, and Donna Cuevas; and, be it Further resolved, that the Secretary of the Commission shall send a copy of this resolution to Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, Representative Pete Stark, and US Department of Homeland Security.  Commissioner Bondoc made a motion to adopt the amended resolution, which was seconded by Commissioner Haile.  The Commission unanimously adopted the amended resolution.

 

Adjournment:            The Commission meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
