[RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT IMMIGRANT PRIDE DAY, OCTOBER 25, 2003]
WHEREAS the Immigrants Rights Commission is established to promote the rights of all immigrants in San Francisco and to advise the Mayor and Board of Supervisors on immigrants rights issues, and
WHEREAS, 36.7% of residents of the City and County of San Francisco are immigrants who deserve the recognition, respect and dignity for their many contributions to the social, religious, cultural and economic life of our City, and
WHEREAS, immigrants are entitled to the right to work and live without fear and with access to all social services, education, health care, and economic opportunities, and
WHEREAS, Immigrant Pride Day as been supported by the City since its beginning in 1996, as a celebration of the rights, free speech, and lives of immigrants and their families, carried out by over 50 community and labor organizations and immigrant rights groups, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Immigrants Rights Commission supports Immigrant Pride Day, Saturday, October 25, 2003, as a celebration of cultural diversity and education to move toward the end of discrimination in all its forms against immigrants.
