Resolution urging the end of hate and violence towards Arab and Muslim residents and communities.
WHEREAS, The Arab and Muslim communities in the United States share the nation's outrage and grief over the terrorist attacks in the United States, and share in the suffering and pain inflicted by terrorist acts; and
WHEREAS, There have been more than 300 reported incidents of violence or threats of violence against Arab and Muslim Americans and other immigrants in the United States since September 11, 2001; and,
WHEREAS, The City and County of San Francisco derives its greatness and strengths from our immigrants and diverse communities including Arab and Muslim Americans and immigrants who make significant contributions to all aspects of our society including culture, religion, medicine; education; technology, peace and justice; and,
WHEREAS, Hatred, violence, ignorance, and prejudice threaten our country and undermine our strengths and freedoms; and,
WHEREAS, The City and County of San Francisco has consistently promoted tolerance and condemned violence and hatred against our residents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commission urges the Mayor and San Francisco Board of Supervisors to take all appropriate measures to prevent further violence against our Arab and Muslim residents and communities.
