Grant request for reconsideration of Civil Service Commission action on April 15, 2002, on Salary Survey for Registered Nurse Classifications (Charter Section A8.403).

   
   

The Commission requests the City Attorney’s opinion on the application of Charter Section A8.403 with reference to
retirement benefits.

The Commission directed representatives of the Department of Human Resources and Service Employees International Union Local 790 to meet and report back to the Civil Service Commission at its June 3, 2002 meeting; Instructed the Executive Officer to notify the Board of Supervisors that discussions are ongoing.

(1) Charter Amendment - Member, Board of Supervisors (Gonzalez) Charter Amendment to amend Section 2.100, and to add Section 15.109 to provide that the Supervisors’ salary be set by the Ethics Commission (BOS File 010961).

Direct the Executive Officer to respond to the Board of Supervisors that the Charter provided that the setting of Elected
Officials salaries is within the jurisdiction of the Civil Service Commission and not with the Ethics Commission.

(2) Charter Amendment - Member, Board of Supervisors (Gonzalez) Charter Amendment to amend Section 2.100, and to provide that the Supervisors’ salary will be set by the Civil Service Commission (BOS File 020884).

Direct the Executive Officer to respond to the Board of Supervisors noting the issues expressed by the Civil Service Commissioners and that the Civil Service Commission supports setting Board of Supervisors salaries by the Civil Service Commission. (3) Charter Amendment - Municipal Water and Power: Charter Amendment
(Ammiano) Charter Amendment to add a new Chapter 8B to eliminate the
Public Utilities Commission and to form a Municipal Water and Power Utilities Commission (BOS File 012056).

Section 16.121 to create the Public Advocate and to establish the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment and to create neighborhood councils

The meeting was adjourned in memory of San Francisco Police Officer Jon Cook killed in the line of duty on June 12, 2002 with a moment of silence. The Executive Officer is directed to send a communication to Officer Cook’s partner and family with condolences from the Civil Service Commission. (Vote of 5 to 0)
