Notary Oath Filing

The San Francisco Office of the County Clerk is delighted to welcome you back into City Hall and to our offices.

Beginning November 1, 2021, our office hours will be as follows:

Monday to Friday
8:00 am to 4:00 pm processing hours
4:00 pm to 5:00 pm information only

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, all mail and online orders are experiencing processing delays of 4-6 weeks. Please plan accordingly and we thank you for your patience.

By Mail

Notary Bond and Oath of Office in Person
If filing your notary bond and oath with the County Clerk's office in person, you must take and file your oath of office and notary bond within 30 calendar days of your commission's starting date. We are located at City Hall, Suite 168, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, CA 94102-4678.

We are near the Van Ness and McAllister Street entrance at City Hall.

Please come to our office and bring the following with you:

1. Original commission
2. Original bond
3. Two completed and unsigned oath of office forms
4. Identification
5. *See Fees.


Our processing hours are 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Monday through Friday, except for legal holidays. Processing time is approximately 30 minutes.

You can also have your Notary Bond and Oath of Office processed by mail.

Notary Bond and Oath of Office by Mail
If planning to have your notary bond and oath processed by mail with the S.F. County Clerk's office take the following with you to a Notary Public:

1. Original commission
2. Two completed and unsigned oath of office forms
3. Notary's fee
4. Identification

Then forward the following items by certified mail to the Office of the County Clerk at City Hall, Suite 168, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, CA, 94102-4678, early enough for us to receive the items within the 30 calendar day filing period:

1. A photocopy of your commission
2. Original bond
3. Two oath of office forms, completed and each copy originally signed by you and the notary that administered the oath - must be executed in the county of your
commission
4. A self-addressed stamped envelope
5. A fee of $47.00 + bonding recording fee* (Payment will be accepted by a California pre-printed check including name and address, or money order payable to the S.F. County Clerk.)  *See Fees
