Video Domestic Partnership Filings

The San Francisco Office of the County Clerk is delighted to welcome you back into City Hall and to our offices.

Beginning June 7, 2021, our office hours will be as follows:

Monday through Friday
8:00 am to 1:00 pm for appointments and walk-in services

City ID appointments start on June 1, 2021
Marriage License appointments start on June 7, 2021
Civil Marriage Ceremonies start on June 9, 2021

Due to our initial limited staff for counter service, we encourage professional services to continue to reach us by mail and online whenever possible.

In an effort to keep our staff and community safe, and to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus, our office at City Hall remains closed to in-person services for the foreseeable future.

During San Francisco’s public health orders regarding COVID-19 and the closure of City Hall to the public, the San Francisco County Clerk is introducing Domestic Partnership registration via Video Conference. Before applying for an appointment, we recommend that all customers review our Domestic Partnership Information Page to ensure they understand all requirements for Domestic Partnership in San Francisco before requesting an appointment. 

Requirements for Video Domestic Partnership Appointment

  • Videoconference appointment requires that the couple have the capability of video and audio of both participants. You will need to download the Microsoft Teams app to your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone/tablet with a camera (or) access Microsoft Teams via an up-to-date browser on a computer/laptop with a camera. If your device does not have a speaker and/or mic, a call-in number will be provided, however, you must also connect using a device with a camera.
  • Couples must be physically together during the appointment and located in the State of California.
  • We are very sorry but we will not be allowing any guests to participate in the videoconference.

Applying for Video Domestic Partnership Appointment

  • Submit a request for a Video Domestic Partnership appointment using our online form including your email address and phone number. 
  • You will receive an email requesting that you reply with your completed Domestic Partnership Application and a picture or photocopy (front and back) of legal unexpired photo-identification for both parties and present originals during the appointment. Examples of acceptable identification include Driver’s License or State Identification, Passport, Military ID, Consulate Card. Note: If the ID card does not contain your full legal name you must also email and present during the appointment a certified copy of a birth certificate or social security card, showing your full legal name. 
  • Once your documents are approved, a member of our staff will contact you with information on how to reserve your appointment and make payment of the non-refundable $62 appointment fee by credit card.
  • Appointments will not be confirmed until payment has been made. You will then receive detailed instructions on how to prepare for and connect to your videoconference marriage appointment.
  • Absolutely no refund or credit is given for any reason including but not limited to cancellation, error, failure to show, or any unforeseen circumstance.
