MINUTES

 

 

             I.      CALL TO ORDER /ROLL CALL                                                  

   Andrea Shorter called the meeting to order at 5:36pm.

 

   Committee Members Present:

   Andrea Shorter, Member, Commission on the Status of Women

   Talia Anderson, Member, Youth Commission Representative

   Madeline Ing, Member, At-Large

   Dawn Liu, Member, SFUSD Student Advisory Council Representative

 

   Staff Present:

   Emily Murase, Ph. D., Executive Director, Department on the Status of Women

   Kim-Shree Maufas, CEDAW Policy Analyst, Department on the Status of Women

 

          II.      ADOPTION OF AGENDA                                                              

            The agenda was approved for the December 7, 2006 GIRL Committee

            meeting.

 

 

       III.      INTRODUCTIONS                                                             

Informal introductions of members present including COSW Commissioner, DOSW Staff.  

 

Andrea Shorter, Commissioner, has been is in the 3rd year of her second term of serving on the Commission on the Status of Women. Commissioner Shorter gave an overview of the Commission and how the GIRLS Committee will advise the Commission on current issues that affect girls and young women in San Francisco. 

 

Talia Anderson, 16, attends Civic Center Secondary High School at John Swett Campus.

 

Madeline Ing, 14, attends George Washington High School.

 

Dawn Liu, 17, attends School of the Arts High School.

 

Dr. Emily Murase has been the executive Director of the Department on the Status of Women for 3 years and previously served on the Commission on the Status of Women.

 

Kim-Shree Maufas, CEDAW Policy Analyst has been with the Department on the Status of Women since, October of 2005.

 

Lengthy open discussion about various member’s backgrounds.

1.  January 8, 2007 – Date and location to be confirmed.   

   

C.     Commissioner Shorter escorted Committee members on tour of City Hall.

American Sign Language interpreters and a Sound Amplification System provided upon request with 48-hour advance notice to 415-252-2570. Translation into languages other than English is also available with 48-hour notice. Limited accessible street parking available.  Accessible MUNI Metro station in the Van Ness Station and lines are J, K, L, M and N.  Accessible MUNI Lines are the 6, 7, 9, 42, 47, 49, and 71 lines.   Accessible seating for persons with disabilities (including those using wheelchairs) will be available.  Meeting proceedings available in alternative formats.  In order to assist the City's efforts to accommodate persons with severe allergies, environmental illness, multiple chemical sensitivity or related disabilities, attendees at public meetings are reminded that other attendees may be sensitive to various chemical based products.  Please help the City to accommodate these individuals.  To obtain a disability-related modification or accommodation, including auxiliary aids or services, to participate in the meeting, please contact the Department on the Status of Women at least two business days before the meeting at 415-252-2570 (Voice) or 415-252-2550 (TTD).  The Board of Supervisors has amended the Sunshine Ordinance by adding provision 67A.1.  The provision is effective as of January 21, 2001. Know Your Rights under the Sunshine Ordinance

Government’s duty is to serve the public, reaching its decision in full view of the public.
