All matters listed hereunder constitute a Consent Agenda and are considered to be routine by the Commission on the Status of Women.  They will be acted upon by a single roll call vote of the Commission.  There will be no separate discussion of these items unless a member of the Commission so requests, in which event the matter shall be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered as a separate item.  Members of the public may speak on each item listed on the Consent Agenda.

  • World AIDS Day, Res. 2005-041: Resolution recognizing the work of Westside Community Mental Health Center Inc: Women's HIV Prevention Program throughout the year and on December 1st, World AIDS Day.

 

B.   16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, November 25-December 10, 2005, Res. 2005-042: 

Resolution urging the City of San Francisco , its citizens, and community based organizations to come together to combat gender violence in San Francisco .

 

  1. Janice Mirikitani, Res. 2005-043: Resolution recognizing Janice Mirikitani’s receipt of the Minerva Award.

VI. NEW BUSINESS                                     DISCUSSION/ACTION

 

A.  Sexual Assault Services/Education RFP Commissioner Munter                                   10 min.

The Commission will discuss the recommendations of the Funding Committee regarding the grant award(s) of the Sexual Assault Service & Education.  There is a total of $325,000 over the next 18-months (January 2006-July 2007) for three program areas: 24-hour crisis line, intervention advocacy services, and prevention and education training.

 

Action: To approve the recommendations of the Funding Committee for the Sexual Assault Service & Education grant award(s).

     

B.   Women’s Initiative                                  Heather Haxo-Phillips                                    15 min.

Ms. Haxo-Phillips will discuss the work her organization, Women’s Initiative, is doing to improve the economic development of women in the Bay Area through its training and job development programs.

A.   Labor Conditions of Exotic Dancers       Commissioner Evans                           10 min.

The Commission will hear an update on work being done regarding the labor conditions of the exotic    dancers.  The Commission will also discuss the status of the legislation being developed by the City Attorney’s Office.

  This item is to allow members of the public to comment generally on matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for Commission’s future consideration.

Translation into languages other than English is also available with 48-hour notice. Limited accessible street parking available.  Accessible MUNI Metro station in the Van Ness Station and lines are J, K, L, M and N.  Accessible MUNI Lines are the 6, 7, 9, 42, 47, 49, and 71 lines.   Accessible seating for persons with disabilities (including those using wheelchairs) will be available.  Meeting proceedings available in alternative formats.  In order to assist the City's efforts to accommodate persons with severe allergies, environmental illness, multiple chemical sensitivity or related disabilities, attendees at public meetings are reminded that other attendees may be sensitive to various chemical based products.  Please help the City to accommodate these individuals.  To obtain a disability-related modification or accommodation, including auxiliary aids or services, to participate in the meeting, please contact the Department on the Status of Women at least two business days before the meeting at 415-252-2570 (Voice) or 415-252-2550 (TTD).  The Board of Supervisors has amended the Sunshine Ordinance by adding provision 67A.1.  The provision is effective as of January 21, 2001 .
