Robert Davis, Executive Director of the Entertainment Commission will talk about its work with exotic dance clubs in San Francisco and its policy around issuing permits to exotic dance clubs.

 

B.  Trafficking Legislation and VAWA Act   Eric Luce                                             10 min.

Assistant Public Defender Eric Luce will discuss his concerns related to current and proposed state and federal legislation that was developed to protect trafficked victims as well as the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and how the legislation impacts sex workers. 

 

C.  Election of Officers for 2005-2006                       President Shorter                                 5 min.

The Commission will vote to elect the President and Vice President of the Commission for 2005-2006.  At the July 27 meeting, President Shorter and Vice President Williams were nominated for another term.

      

Action: To elect President Shorter and Vice President Williams as President and Vice President for 2005-2006

      The Commission will review the draft agenda for the Commission Retreat on September 23, 2005 .

E.   Concerns Related to Lead in Candy        Commissioner Marks                                    5 min.

      Commissioner Marks will discuss recent articles outlining increased amounts of lead found in candy and the impact on the children of San Francisco .

 

F.   Women’s Equality Day                             President Shorter                               5 min.

      The Commission will discuss on its sponsorship of the California Women’s Agenda (CAWA) and the Women’s Building August 26th Equality Day event.

 

      Action:  To sponsor August 26th Equality Day event.

 

VII. OLD BUSINESS                                        DISCUSSION/ACTION                    

 

A   Labor Conditions of Exotic Dancers        Commissioner Evans                           10 min.

The Commission will hear an update on work being done regarding the labor conditions of the exotic     dancers.  The Commission will also discuss the status of the legislation being developed by the City Attorney’s Office.

Action: To send a letter to City Attorney Dennis Herrera requesting a deadline for the legislation.

      Commissioner Keehn will give an update on the work of the Justice & Courage Project.

Commissioner Williams will give an update on the work of the CEDAW Committee and discuss two candidates for the CEDAW Committee: Philip Ginsberg, Human Resources Director, and Sandra Holmes of the Controller’s Office to the CEDAW Committee.

  This item is to allow members of the public to comment generally on matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for Commission’s future consideration.
