Meeting Minutes

Introductions/Roll Call
Rosario Navarrette from the Department on the Status of Women called the meeting to order. All members introduced themselves and the department or agency they represent.
Goals of Committee
Rosario Navarrette discussed the goals of the Committee as they are described in the
Justice and Courage: A Blueprint for SF's Response to Domestic Violence. The Committee will review each department's protocols, memorandums of understanding and any policy in relation to domestic violence. Each Department will bring this information to the next meeting to distribute to Committee members. Also, their Department's response to the Mayor will be distributed.
Selection of Chair, Co-Chair, Secretary
Barbara Brooten-Job will serve as co-chair along with Rachael Kilshaw. The secretary will rotate each meeting.
Meeting Schedule
The Protocol Committee will meet monthly on every 2nd Wednesday.
Other Issues/Comments
There was discussion on the need for a court representative to attend the meetings. Members stated that the court's participation is critical since they establish legal protocols, which affect other areas and departments. Committee members stated that even if the courts could not attend the meetings, there is a great need to for a better understanding of domestic violence court proceedings; such as processing, determinations, restraining order process, etc.
Ken Theisen stated that county to county there are different protocols and often he has clients in different cities. Bay Area Legal Aid covers seven counties.
Oli Sadler discussed the use of San Francisco Television Station, Internet and Intranet as a tool to inform others of work being done in Committees.
Ken Theisen discussed the need for school districts, housing authorities and hospitals (staff and facility) to know about protocols and possibly participate.
Next Meeting
Next Meeting will be held at Bay Area Legal Aid, 50 Fell Street, San Francisco, CA
on Wednesday, February 12, 2002, 10:30-12:00.
