Explanatory document – Family Violence Council Membership Roster.
III. WELCOME DISCUSSION 5 min.
Commissioner Andrea Evans will make welcoming remarks to the Council.
*The Mayor is expected to provide a welcome, as his schedule permits.
IV. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE DISCUSSION 15 min.
Members of the planning group will explain the importance of the Council to each of the 3 intervention communities involved.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
A. Election of Council Co-Chairs DISCUSSION/ACTION 6 min.
Explanatory document – Family Violence Council legislation. Per SEC. 5.190-2 of the authorizing legislation, the Steering Committee is composed of the 3 co-chairs who will be selected from among the Council membership: 1 from a domestic violence agency, 1 from a child abuse agency, and 1 from an elder abuse agency. Nominations for these positions will be heard and voted on today.
Action: To elect 3 co-chairs of the Family Violence Council to serve on the Steering Committee.
B. Change of Standing Meeting Date and Time DISCUSSION/ACTION 6 min.
The Department will propose that the Council meets on either the 1st, 3rd or 4th Thursday of the quarter from 3 pm – 5 pm, with the change to begin in January.
Action: To vote on a new standing meeting date and time.
C. Short-Term and Long-Term Goals DISCUSSION/ACTION 35 min.
Members will discuss short- and long-term goals for the Council. Goals should address issues that affect all 3 focus areas of the Council: child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse. This discussion may lead to the creation of committees for long-term/yearly goals, or the creation of small work-groups for short-term/quarterly goals.
Action: To approve creation of committees or work-groups of the Family Violence Council, if any.
V. PUBLIC COMMENT DISCUSSION 10 min.
This item is to allow members of the public to comment, for a maximum of 2 minutes each, on matters within the Council’s purview, as well as to suggest new agenda items for the Council’s future consideration.
VI. ADJOURNMENT ACTION 1 min.
