I. CALL TO ORDER/AGENDA CHANGES
Chair Andrea Shorter called the meeting to order at 12:00 pm

II. NEW BUSINESS: Recommendation to the Commission on the Status of Women on Advancing Collaborative Domestic Violence Policy Reform
Panel members reviewed a draft of the recommendation letter to the Commissioners at its meeting on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Dr. Emily Murase summarized the role of the Justice & Courage Oversight Panel as a policy body on domestic violence that was asked to provide a recommendation to the Commission on the Status of Women. The Commission will then advise the Mayor and Board of Supervisors on its position on the issue.

Panel members discussed the recommendation and approved it with changes. [Shorter/Upton/ALL] Mr. Ken Theisen abstained from voting to refrain from conflict with his work duties.

When asked what would happen should the Commission not approve the Panel’s recommendation, Dr. Murase stated that there is no way to determine ahead of time what the Commission’s position will be as the process will involve discussions, public comment, and then a vote by the Commission.
