BE IT KNOWN That the Commission on the Status of Women of the City & County of San Francisco hereby issues and authorizes the execution, by the subscribing Commissioners, of the following commendation:

WHEREAS, Anna Damiani made San Francisco her home nearly 40 years ago, at a time when Anita Bryant led a political coalition seeking to repeal anti-discrimination measures protecting the rights of the LGBT community in South Florida; and soon became a strong advocate for women’s and LGBT resources while working at Pacific Bell where, as a technician and later operator, she served as a shop steward for the Communications Workers of America, and quickly rose through the ranks with increasing responsibility; her advocacy work at Pacific Bell led to strong support for domestic partnership benefits throughout the Pacific Bell family of companies, an expanded marketing strategy for the LGBT community, and several statewide and local conferences designed to increase the power of women and members of the LGBT community; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Damiani has also held leadership positions in Bay Area Career Women, the UCSF Women’s Health Patient Advisory Committee, served as President of the Golden Gate Business Association, and on the boards of San Francisco PRIDE, the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, and Golden Gate Flyers; and,

WHEREAS, Following her career in the telecommunications industry, Ms. Damiani served for over 15 years as a local legislative staff member, first for Assemblymember Kevin Shelley followed by 14 years for Senator (and Assemblymember) Mark Leno; and, during her years in the legislature, Ms. Damiani dedicated her time to assisting constituents with a wide range of issues and advocating for all San Franciscans; and, she can still be seen, outfitted in her trademark color of lavender/purple, at many community events, meetings and other public functions engaging community members or stopping to say hello to the many dogs that know she is always good for a treat;

NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, on the occasion of the 2017 PRIDE Month, commends Anna Damiani for her tremendous contributions to the LGBT and women’s communities and wishes her continued success.
