Resolution Recognizing the 30th Anniversary of APA Family Support Services

BE IT KNOWN That the Commission on the Status of Women of the City and County of San Francisco hereby issues and authorizes the execution, by the subscribing Commissioners, of the following commendation:

WHEREAS, APA Family Support Services was founded in 1987 by Dr. Don Wong to address the obstacles created by language barriers and by cultural conflicts in conjunction with unfamiliarity of western medicine, child care practices, and appropriate parenting skills that often prevent families from seeking and finding the resources necessary to overcome their difficulties; and,

WHEREAS, APA strengthens families with a spectrum of services to prevent and if necessary, treat problems that may occur as a result of stress, barriers and challenges of language, finances, and lack of resources; and,

WHEREAS, APA hosts a collaborative multilingual hotline service available in seven different languages and dialects geared towards those who have language barriers; and,

WHEREAS, APA Family Support Services is San Francisco's foremost advocate and service provider for at-risk Asian and Pacific Islander children and their families, serving over 7,000 families annually; and,

NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women recognizes the 30th Anniversary of APA Family Support Services, and commends the work of APA Family Support Services in its continuous efforts to promote and maintain safe and happy home environments to the families it serves.
