Notice of Special Agenda Item for May 13, 2009 Meeting

At its May 13, 2009 meeting, as one of its agenda items, the Juvenile Probation Commission plans to discuss and take action on a proposed revision to its policy on Commission Commendations.  Below is the text of the proposed revised policy:

SAN FRANCISCO JUVENILE PROBATION COMMISSION COMMENDATION

- DRAFT -

Resolution #09-XX, adopted XX/XX/09

Sponsored by: Commissioner Dirk J. Beijen on 04/08/09

This resolution replaces the unnumbered resolution, on the same subject, that was drafted & approved by the Program Committee on 06/21/07 and adopted by the Commission on 07/11/07.

It is the policy of the San Francisco Juvenile Probation Commission to award a JUVENILE PROBATION COMMISSION COMMENDATION to deserving individuals or groups that provide outstanding and meritorious service to the Juvenile Probation Department.  Such service shall have significantly helped the Juvenile Probation Department in its mission.

Any Juvenile Probation Commissioner or any employee of the Juvenile Probation Department may submit written nomination for the JUVENILE PROBATION COMMISSION COMMENDATION on behalf of an individual or group.  The nomination shall be submitted to the Juvenile Probation Commission within 180 days of the service rendered.

When a nomination is received, the President of the Commission shall refer that nomination to a standing Screening Committee composed of the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, or his/her designee, and two Juvenile Probation Commissioners.  The Screening Committee shall investigate the claim of outstanding and meritorious service that has been made in the nomination.  That committee shall report back to the Commission with a recommendation no later than 60 days after the Commission first received the application.   The Commission shall immediately vote whether to request further investigation, to deny the award, or to approve and award the JUVENILE PROBATION COMMISSION COMMENDATION to the nominee.

Approved JUVENILE PROBATION COMMISSION COMMENDATIONS shall be awarded at regular Juvenile Probation Commission meetings, to be scheduled as needed, in March, June, September, and/or December.  The person or group being honored, or a representative of that person or group, may be invited to receive the award in person.

The JUVENILE PROBATION COMMISSION COMMENDATION will be recorded in the Juvenile Probation Commission minutes and shall be represented in the form of a certificate.  Any Juvenile Probation Commissioner who supports the award may sign the certificate.
