Paula Hernandez - Assistant Chief Probation Officer
Born at Letterman Army Medical Hospital at the Presidio, Paula Hernandez spent her formative years tromping through the hills of Twin Peaks and attending San Francisco Schools. Ms. Hernandez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University. She began her professional career as a Juvenile Hall Counselor in the East Bay. Her professional experience spans three counties and encompasses all areas of Probation including Adult, Juvenile, Field, Detention and Camps. Assistant Chief Hernandez believes that Probation is the lynchpin of the justice system and the only agency that routinely interacts with all other agencies involved with juvenile and criminal justice. She embodies and promotes the collaborative nature of the work that allows Probation Officers to have varied, vast, and challenging experiences leading to client success, victim restoration, and enhanced public safety. She has been a leader in the adoption of effective models of intervention with youth, created in partnership with all juvenile justice stakeholders focused on Juvenile Delinquency and Prevention. Assistant Chief Hernandez uses her expertise and experiences as a career public safety official to represent the probation profession at commissions, as well as local, state, and national forums.
