Sheryl Cowan-Executive Secretary

Sheryl CowanSheryl Cowan is the Executive Assistant and Confidential Secretary to Chief Probation Officer Katherine Weinstein Miller and Assistant Chief Paula Hernandez at the San Francisco Juvenile Probation Department. Prior to coming to SFJPD in June 2014, Ms. Cowan worked as the Commission Secretary for the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, as well as being the Executive Assistant to HRC Director Theresa Sparks. Other work experience includes being a temporary Office Manager and Assistant to Phyllis Cook, PLC Philanthropic Services, over 7-years as the Office and HR Coordinator for Blind Babies Foundation, 3-years as a successful grant writer for Articulate Integrity including writing many grants for the AIDS Emergency Fund. Ms. Cowan also worked many years for Mr. Edward Scarff, a former president of Transamerica Corporation, in his private investment firm of Scarff, Sears & Associates and for Mr. Chris Mumford, CEO of Arcata Corporation. Community service work includes founding the Claire Lilienthal Learning Academy, “CLLA,” an after-school for middle school aged children which is still in operation through a partnership with the Presidio YMCA and SFUSD. Sheryl has a BA in Broadcast Communication from San Francisco State University and did her undergraduate work at University of California, Berkeley in theater arts and modern dance.
