Accessible Building Blocks for Bicycle Facilities

The San Francisco’s Municipal Transportation Agency in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office on Disability, Department of Public Works, and the Planning Department developed and released the final version of the Guidelines for Accessible Building Blocks for Bicycle Facilities. This document is the first of its’ kind nationally; it provides a set of guidelines and design standards to preserve accessibility and usability for people with disabilities in streets with separated bikeway facilities. It is our hope that when designed appropriately, separated bikeways can lower traffic speeds and increase safety for all road users without compromising accessibility for pedestrians, drivers or passengers with disabilities.
