Homeless Program

“I applaud the Governor and state legislature for passing a landmark affordable housing package that will help tackle California’s mounting housing crisis. This critical housing deal was made possible due to the tremendous leadership of our state legislative leaders and our City’s representatives, Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember David Chiu and Assemblymember Phil Ting.

It is particularly appropriate that this package of bills was signed today, right here in our city, as we are creating housing at a rapid pace. In San Francisco, we have committed to building 30,000 new and rehabilitated housing units by 2020, and with more than 17,000 units created, we are well on our way to meeting this goal. Earlier this week, I signed an Executive Directive that will increase the rate of building in our City, allowing us to create 5,000 housing units each year for the foreseeable future.

City Infrastructure: Mayor Announces Record Level of Capital Investment

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued an Executive Directive that will reduce housing project timelines by nearly half while leading to the creation of 5,000 new units every year for the foreseeable future.

“For too long, we failed to develop enough housing in our city, creating an environment where families left San Francisco for more affordable places to live,” said Mayor Lee. “We will not allow the mistakes of the past to continue. Instead of putting up obstacles to housing, this initiative will foster an environment where homes can be created quickly and efficiently. More housing in San Francisco will make this city more affordable for our families.”
