Public Safety: Mayor Announces Agreement on Body Worn Cameras for Police Officers
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today announced an agreement with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and San Francisco Police Officers Association (SFPOA) on the use of body worn cameras. The deployment of the devices is designed to ensure transparency and accountability in officers’ engagement with the public, help rebuild trust with the community and protect members from unfounded complaints.
“We are making critical investments in funding police department reform, rebuilding community trust, and bringing a culture change in how we handle conflicts on our City streets,” said Mayor Lee. “This new agreement will help get body worn cameras to every patrol officer, to keep both residents and police officers safe and help keep San Francisco one of the safest big cities in the nation.”
