If You Work in San Francisco and Your Employer has at Least 20 Employees

 

If you work in San Francisco and your employer has at least 20 employees, you are covered by San Francisco's basic labor laws AND San Francisco's labor laws for employers with at least 5 employees AND you are also covered by the following laws:
 

Health Care Security Ordinance

If you have worked for your employer for at least 90 days and you work at least 8 hours per week in San Francisco, your employer is required to spend a specified amount of money on your health care.

In 2019:

 

  • If your employer has between 20 – 99 workers (or non-profit employers with between 50 – 99 workers), your employer must spend $1.95 per hour on your health care.
  • If your employer has at least 100 workers, your employer must spend $2.93 per hour on your health care.

Paid Parental LeaveCall Us

You are covered by San Francisco’s Paid Parental Leave law if:

  1. You have worked for your employer for at least 180 days prior to the start of the leave period;
  2. You work at least 8 hours per week in San Francisco;
  3. At least 40% of your total weekly work hours are in San Francisco; and,
  4. You are eligible to receive paid family leave compensation under the California Paid Family Leave law to bond with a new child. 

If you are covered, your employer will be required to pay the difference between your weekly benefit from the California Paid Family Leave and 100% of your normal gross weekly wages (up to the cap).

Family Friendly

If you have worked for your employer for at least 6 months and you work at least 8 hours per week in San Francisco, you are covered by San Francisco’s Family Friendly law.

Family Friendly gives you the right to request flexible or predictable work arrangements to assist with caregiving responsibilities.  It provides a process only; your employer is not required to agree to your request.
