If You Work in San Francisco for a Chain Store ("Formula Retail")
If you work in San Francisco for a chain store ("formula retail"), you are covered by San Francisco's basic labor laws AND San Francisco's labor laws for employers with 5 or more employees AND San Francisco's labor laws for employers with 20 or more employees AND you are also covered by the following law:
San Francisco's Formula Retail law applies to chain stores with at least 40 stores worldwide and 20 or more employees in San Francisco, as well as their janitorial and security contractors.
Among other requirements, your employer must:
- Offer any extra work hours to current qualified part-time employees in writing before hiring new employees;
- Provide you with your work schedules two weeks in advance;
- Pay you extra when your schedule is changed with less than seven days’ notice or if you are required to be “on call” but are not called into work. (There are exceptions to this requirement. Call us for more information.)
