Minimum Wage



Employees that perform work in San Francisco, including part-time and temporary employees, must be paid no less than the San Francisco minimum wage, currently $16.32 per hour.

This increase is based on Section 12R.4 of the San Francisco Administrative Code. The Mminimum wage rate will be adjusted based on the annual increase in the Consumer Price Index.

Note:  A small number of "Government Supported Employees" are subject to a minimum wage rate of $14.44. Click here for more information.

Statutory Authority

In 2003, San Francisco voters passed a local minimum wage, becoming the first local jurisdiction to pass a minimum wage rate higher than the federal or state minimum wage.  In 2014, San Francisco voters passed a new initiative to increase the local minimum wage to $15.00 per hour by July 1, 2018, and to adjust the wage rate each July 1 thereafter based on the annual increase in the Consumer Price Index.

Filing a Complaint

To report a violation of the Minimum Wage Ordinance, please complete the Minimum Wage / Paid Sick Leave Complaint Form and submit it to the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement, or call (415) 554-6292.
