DGO 5.15 Enforcement of Immigration Laws
On July 5, 2017, the Police Commission invited members of the public to join Commissioners in forming an Immigration Working Group, providing a platform for stakeholders and community members to weigh in and contribute perspectives and recommendations as the Commission reviews and updates Department General Order (DGO) 5.15, the policy regarding the enforcement of immigration laws. The Working Group is expected to engage in a robust and free exchange of ideas, information and proposals. While open and respectful discussion and dialogue is welcome and encouraged, in discussing and endorsing views, ideas, and proposals, neither the Working Group nor its members speak on behalf of the City, the Police Department, the Commission or any other City agency or officer. Any proposal to change DGO 5.15 will have no force and effect and will not reflect policy unless the Police Commission, acting as a body, adopts the proposal at a noticed public meeting. The Working Group may also propose changes that cannot become City policy unless they are formally approved by the City's Board of Supervisors. No proposal shall be considered if it is deemed to violate City, State or Federal law, statute, ordinance or regulation. We welcome your participation and appreciate your time.
